Dear Mr. Johnson,
I would like to express my utmost gratitude to you for your generous contribution to my experience abroad. It is through your support that my fellow students and I are able to embark on such a journey. And I do mean a journey. This immersion in a completely separate culture from my own allows me to grow as person, applying my own cultural values as well as newly learned values while interacting with students in England I was born and raised in Hawai’i on the island of O’ahu. It was here that I learned the values of acceptance and aloha. I have had the pleasure of interacting with students and teachers from Japan, England, China, and Korea, where I learned that these Hawaiian values are indispensable in communicating and bonding with other individuals. My parents have done well to instill a passion for excellence within me, and I have always strived to do my best in any situation. I strongly believe these values make me a good candidate to represent our home institution while abroad. I challenged myself to double major in management information systems and marketing, which I will continue to study at the University of Roehampton in London, England. I chose this university not only to continue my academic learning, but to immerse myself in a culture completely separate from our own. This step outside of my comfort zone will allow me to better understand the business and social cultures of Europe, while also helping me to grow as an individual. I hope to learn more about myself, and how I would adapt to a shockingly new environment. Though my parents and I work hard, saving for occasions such as college and studying abroad, it is ultimately your generous contribution that made this international endeavor possible. This is a dream-like, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I am honored to be part of, and I am incredibly grateful to you for helping to make it a reality. Sincerely, Gavin Lemasa
